Muthukrishanan Chinnasamy (Muthu)

Muthu has over 21 years of Semiconductor, VLSI design industry experience starting with Texas Instruments India, Sage Design Systems India, Genesis Microchip India and KarMic, India. Muthu serves on the board of Vayavya Labs to define it’s strategies and creating business networks.

Currently he is the senior executive of Bangalore based Sonic Chips India Pvt Ltd and Coimbatore based TanMic Pvt Ltd. Both these companies are engaged in building Analog VLSI design IC products for Audio Systems to build world class products for Indian and worldwide Consumer Electronic(CE) markets. At TI India, Muthu had pioneered the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) product revolution through custom DSP (cDSP) product development efforts for many customers by combining standard ASIC design flows and full custom VLSI design flows and product development efforts. This paved the way for huge business options for TI’s standard DSP chips. Prior to that, he initiated all TI-India ASIC activities in India after having a 5 year stint in their Design Automation Division. He left TI to start Sage Design Systems India along with it’s founders and promoters in US(Sage, Inc) to build world’s first LCD controller IC products, which finally lead to Sage, Inc listing in NASDAQ with an eventual MKT CAP valuation of over 350M$(Nov 11 1999). In 2000-01, US based Genesis Microchip acquired Sage world wide operations. Muthu headed all of the Indian operation and groups of the combined company (MKT CAP of close to 1B$) and grew the team in all areas – R&D, ENGINEERING, MARKETING, FIELD SUPPORT and even SALES. His team had put more than 20 IC products in customer hands and products, some of them had yielded individual lifetime revenue of 150-200M$. In Genesis, Muthu also played a major role in acquiring Smart Yantra Technologies and integrating it inside. He left Genesis and helped many startup companies like Saankhya Labs, Vayavya Labs, KarMic, TanMic and recently Sonic Chips India Pvt Ltd, all of them either in Semiconductor or related areas. In TI, Muthu was elected to its Technical council as Member Group Technical Staff (MGTS), an elected and only a proven few are given this honor. He has co-authored many papers in VLSI domains and is a co-inventor of 1 US patent in CMOS Gate Array technology. Muthu has a bachelors engineering degree in Electronics and Communication from Madras University(’85) and a Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University(’87).
