System Safety Engineer Autonomous Driving – AV Risk Evaluation

Position: Application Engineer

Years of Experience: 10+ Years

Location: Belagavi | Bengaluru | Pune

Job brief:
The ADAS and Autonomous Vehicle Validation is undergoing a momentum shift to a “Measurable Safety driven Verification” approach. The current approach of “quantity of miles” is being replaced by the “Quality of Coverage” approach. Tools and Technologies based on the concept of Coverage Driven Verification (CDV) are driving this “quantity of miles approach”. Vayavya is working with a pioneer in this domain for the development of scenario models for ADAS/AV verification as well as deploying the tools with ADAS/AV OEMs, tier 1s.

We are looking for a System Safety Engineer with a background in building risk models for ADAS, and/or autonomous driving to join our team. This engineer will define and manage the autonomy risk evaluation framework and bring all the necessary regulatory and cutting-edge research-driven risk assessment techniques and metrics into the scenario models for comprehensive evaluation of the AV stack performance across Autonomy Levels and Operational Design Domains (ODD).

Job description:

  • Develop the risk evaluation framework and risk model for AVs, including identifying relevant metrics
  • Lead efforts to deploy the risk model including tracing to data sources
  • Lead efforts to establish the credibility of the risk model including validation of the accuracy of the model
  • Support safety analysis and improvements in safety architecture
  • Work with the verification and validation team to identify test plans to generate relevant evidence to support risk evaluation
  • Work with scenario developers R&D and Application Engineers to ensure relevant metrics are being computed and measured
  • Monitor the latest developments and formulation of safety standards by perusing R&D literature and formulate a methodology to incorporate these into the V&V framework
  • Monitor and report on safety performance, and implement continuous improvement measures

Technical Skills (Mandatory)

  • Knowledge of architectural design of ADAS/AV systems
  • Prior experience (10+ years) in developing and/or validation ADAS/AV applications, with a strong focus on System Safety Engineering or Risk quantification
  • Expertise in the application of quantitative models to autonomous or robotic applications
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262
  • Knowledge of existing standards and regulations relevant in the automotive industry

Technical Skills (Good to have)

  • Experience with tools and methods for measuring performance and evaluating reliability and/or safety
  • Exposure to ADAS/AD software development tools including MBD tools, C/C++/Python, SysML
  • Knowledge of additional existing standards and regulations relevant to the automotive industry,

 e.g.  ISO 21448, UL4600

Non-Technical Skills :

  •       Excellent human relationship, and communication skills, and fluent in English, both verbal and in writing.
  •       Fluent in writing application engineering notes /methodology documents.
  •       Experience in direct interaction with end customers.
